I have over 40 years experience in traffic engineering and transport planning acquired in both public and private sectors.
The earlier part of my career included experience in government transport agencies (Country Roads Board and Road Traffic Authority) and TTM Consulting.
In 1986, I established Andrew O’Brien & Associates (now trading as O’Brien Traffic).
I have extensive experience in traffic engineering design, road and network planning, traffic impact analysis, subdivision planning and design, transport economics, local area traffic management, parking policy and management, road safety audits and presentation of expert evidence. Major projects I have been involved with include auditing and operation reviews of the Central Motorway Junction, Busway, and State Highway 1/State Highway 20 connection in Auckland together with pioneering activities in Melbourne to investigate, research and implement various freeway traffic flow improvement schemes including freeway ramp metering.
I have published papers on a range of transport issues, and lectured on transport matters at a range of tertiary institutions, and in government departments - both in Australia and internationally.
